Staff AI Platform Engineer
As a Staff AI Platform Engineer, you'll build the next generation of IAG's AI-powered Internal Developer Platform - the core capabilities that let hundreds of engineers and data scientists build, deploy and operate software faster, safer and with greater autonomy.
This is a deeply hands-on role. You'll lead through technical excellence, building the platform's most complex, business-critical capabilities while raising the engineering bar across the organisation. We expect Staff Engineers to spend the majority of their time writing code, designing systems and building platform capabilities - leading through architecture, reference implementations and code review rather than process.
What's the challenge?
You'll design, build and evolve reusable platform capabilities, including:
● AI agents and agentic developer workflows
● AI-powered CLIs and self-service developer tooling
● Kubernetes Operators and controllers
● Platform APIs and SDKs
● Golden Paths, developer portals and self-service workflows
● Policy engines and automated governance workflows
● GitHub Actions and CI/CD automation
What will the day-to-day look like?
● Deliver the hard problems. Design and implement the platform's most complex, business-critical capabilities, and set the bar through production-quality code, reference implementations and reusable components.
● Drive technical direction. Shape architecture and engineering standards through code, reviews and pairing — reducing ambiguity with prototypes rather than documents.
● Own developer experience. Partner directly with engineers and data scientists to find friction, then build self-service capabilities that measurably improve their productivity. We treat the platform as a product and iterate on it with feedback and metrics.
● Champion AI-assisted engineering. Prototype emerging AI capabilities and bring AI-native practices into the SDLC.
● Lead the cloud & DevSecOps foundation. Drive solutions across IAG's cloud environments (primarily AWS) and advance security and automation practices.
● Grow the team. Mentor engineers, share knowledge, and foster an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture — while communicating technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders and keeping technical risk, debt and compliance well managed.
● In your first 6 months you'll have shipped platform capabilities that a large share of IAG's engineers use daily, established patterns others build on, and made a measurable dent in developer friction.
What are we looking for?
Significant experience designing and building developer platforms or large-scale software platforms, with a strong focus on developer experience, reliability and scalability.

We value candidates who've operated at enterprise scale while retaining the speed and autonomy of a high-growth environment - the ability to prototype and ship without heavy process.
● Proven track record delivering production software in Python (our primary language), and in Go for systems-level components such as Kubernetes Operators and controllers.
● Demonstrated ability to deliver large-scale platform capabilities hands-on - SDKs, CLIs, platform APIs or similar.
● Strong hands-on experience with cloud architecture and services (AWS preferred).
● Experience leveraging AI-native engineering workflows (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot or similar) to accelerate delivery.
● Leads through technical credibility and hands-on engineering rather than positional authority, with the communication skills to mentor and guide teams.
Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ArgoCD/Flux) is expected. A degree in a relevant field is welcome but equivalent industry experience counts equally.

● Experience designing platform APIs or SDKs
